Benefits

Healthcare Benefits

Waste Connections offers a benefits program that meets a wide variety of employee needs.
• Employees are eligible for benefit plans on the first day of the month following 60 days of continuous, active employment.
• Employees can select one of 3 medical plan options within the comprehensive package.

• The comprehensive package also includes the following coverages:  

  • Prescription
  • Dental
  • Vision

Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Dependent Day Care FSA

  • Health Care FSA - Employees can elect to contribute up to $3,050 to the Health Care FSA on a pre[1]tax basis. Eligible expenses include deductibles, coinsurance, many over-the-counter medications, and supplies with a written doctor’s prescription.
  • Dependent Day Care FSA – Employees can elect to contribute up to $5,000, pre-tax, to the Dependent Day Care FSA. Eligible expenses include child daycare or daycare for a physically disabled dependent of any age.

Health Savings Account (If enrolled in the HDHP only)

  • Employees can use pre-tax dollars to pay for qualified health expenses.
  • This account is the employee’s to keep if they leave the company.
  • This benefit earns interest and rolls over from year to year.

 Paid Parental Time-Off

  • One week of base wages regardless of gender.
  • For women who give birth, this time is in addition to short-term disability and any requested Paid time off.

Income Protection Plans

Prepaid Legal Plan

  • Employees may purchase coverage for prepaid legal services for a variety of different legal matters. The plan offers fully covered and discounted costs for services such as but not limited to: Wills & Estate Planning, Legal Documentation & Review, and Small Claims Representation.

Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance

  • Base Life and AD&D are paid for by WCI. There is no cost to the employee. The coverage amount is one and a half times the employee’s basic annual earnings, up to $100,000.
  • Additional Life Insurance can be purchased for up to $500,000 and is also available for spouses and children.

Short-Term Disability

  • The Short-term disability benefit is paid for by WCI. There is no cost to the employee.
  • Benefits begin after a 7-day waiting period and may last up to 90 days or until disability ends.
  • Plan pays 70% of weekly base earnings, up to $1,500 per week. (Reduced if the employee receives any state disability) This document is meant only to serve as a reference and in no way represents a contract of employment between the employee and the company. If there are any discrepancies in benefits between this overview and the Summary Plan Descriptions (SPD), the SPD will govern. 3 WCI Benefits Overview

Long-Term Disability

  • Base Long-Term Disability: Benefit is paid for by WCI. There is no cost to the employee. The plan pays 50% of the employee’s base earnings (up to $5,000 a month) after 90 days of continuous disability.
  • Voluntary Long-Term Disability: Employees may buy up the LTD benefit to 60% of their base earnings (up to a maximum of $10,000 a month) after 90 days of continuous disability.

Emergency Travel Assistance

  • This program provides support when traveling outside of the U.S.
  • The program helps locate doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies if there is a medical emergency while traveling anywhere abroad.

Retirement

401(k) Retirement Savings Plan

  • Employees can enroll in 401k on the first of the month following 60 days of service.
  • WCI will match 100% of the employee’s contribution up to the first 5% of their eligible pay.
  • Employees are immediately 100% vested.

Employee Share Purchase Plan (ESPP)

  • Employees can purchase discounted Waste Connections stock through easy payroll contributions.
  • Elections are made in November for the January 1 through June 30 offering period. In May, you can make elections for the July 1 through December 31 offering period.

Employee Support

Waste Connections Scholarship Program

  • Waste Connections Scholarship Program aims to assist children of employees who plan to continue their education through college or vocational school programs. The program will award renewable scholarships of $2,500 each per academic year for up to four years.

WCN Wellness

  • The Waste Connections Wellness program provides support around three key pillars: financial wellness, emotional strength, and physical well-being. We offer tools and resources to help employees achieve and maintain a healthy and fulfilling life.

Waste Connections Employee Relief Fund

  • Our company culture incorporates the spirit of giving and supporting others. Whether a natural disaster or a coworker's individual misfortune, Waste Connections and our employees look for ways to help one another in times of need.
  • The Waste Connections Employee Relief Fund was set up to help employees who experience significant financial hardship following a natural disaster or other catastrophic event. Through contributions from Waste Connections, our employees, and vendors, we assist impacted employees pay for essential living expenses, such as food, clothing, temporary housing, and basic necessities.
