In Juneau, Alaska Waste offers weekly residential trash collection service. Customers will utilize a 96 gallon roll cart for trash service. Additional trash may be scheduled for collection at an additional rate.
Juneau Curbside Trash & Recycling Collection
On collection day place cart at curb by 6AM. Available sizes may vary by location
Bulky Item Pickup
Large items such as old furniture, yard debris, and large amounts of bagged trash can be collected conveniently from your curb. Alaska Waste’s bulky item pickup is available to both new and existing customers to be collected every Thursday with rates starting at $45.34.
This service is an easy, and affordable way to dispose of large household items. Call Alaska Waste at 907-780-7800 for information and scheduling.

What Items Are Considered for the Recycling Cart?
Understanding what can and cannot be placed in your recycling cart is key to keeping the recycling process efficient and effective. By following these guidelines, you’ll help reduce contamination and support a cleaner environment.

- Tin and steel food cans
Plastics
- Plastics labeled #1–#7 (bottles, jugs, tubs, andother rigid plastic containers)
Paper & Cardboard
- Corrugated cardboard
- Boxboard (such as cereal boxes and other thincardboard packaging)
- Junk mail and brochures
- Newspapers and magazines
- Office paper (white and colored)
- Paper bags
- Paper egg cartons
- Paperback books
- Phone books
Unacceptable Items
Plastics and Packaging
- Plastic bags and plastic film (including wrapand shrink wrap)
- Styrofoam and other foam packaging
- Plastic utensils and straws
- Oversized rigid plastics that are not standardbottles, jugs, tubs, or containers
Glass and Ceramics
- Glass bottles and jars
- Window glass and mirrors
- Ceramics and dishware
Paper and Cardboard Contaminants
- Food-soiled or greasy cardboard and paper
- Used paper towels, napkins, and tissues

- Hazardous waste (paint, chemicals, fuels,propane tanks)

Extra Refuse
Learn about the size, weight, and scheduling requirements for disposing of extra or oversized refuse. Ensure proper removal and avoid additional charges with Alaska Waste.
- LidCarts with the lid not completely closed may be subject to additional refuse charges.
- Odd Sized TrashOdd sized trash must be contained or bundled and measure less than 4 feet in length or width or height and weigh no more than 60 pounds.
- Additional BagEach additional bag or box set beside the cart must not exceed 32 gallons in size or weigh more than 50 pounds. These are subject to an extra charge.
- Large Sized ItemsLarge and odd-sized items can be removed with prior scheduling. Contact your Alaska Waste office to arrange pickup and discuss pricing.

Alaska Waste offers residential recycling every other week.

Choose the Right Recycling Cart
Customers are provided with a 96-gallon recycling cart, designed for efficient curbside recycling. Select the size that best suits your household's needs.
Proper Placement on Collection Day
• Roll cart lids must be closed. Place carts so that the handles face your house.
• Ensure your cart is at the curb by 6:00 AM on collection day. Per the CBJ ordinance, carts cannot be placed on the curb before 4:00 AM on collection day to avoid fines.
• Place it within 5 feet of the curb and at least 3 feet away from mailboxes, vehicles, or other obstacles.
Recycling Guidelines for a Cleaner Process
Only place acceptable recycling items in the cart. Avoid plastic bags, and do not bag or box recyclables to keep the recycling process efficient and contamination-free.

- Special Handling• Glass must be labeled and double wrapped (preferably with paper and plastic bags) when placed at the curbside as extra refuse.
• Any animal or fish waste must be securely double-bagged. A maximum quantity of ten pounds will be accepted in any one container per week. - Roll Carts Cannot Exceed 150 PoundsDue to safety and tariff restrictions, roll carts cannot exceed 150 pounds.
- Hazardous WasteDo not place rocks, dirt, hazardous waste or ashes (hot or cold) in any Alaska Waste container.

Juneau Cancellation & Service Suspended
How to Cancel Service
• To cancel service, please contact your local Alaska Waste office at least 1 week prior to the desired last day of service.
• Set cart out on the date agreed to during cancellation process by
6:00 AM to guarantee removal.
• If your cart is not made available for retrieval, your account may be charged a cart fee of up to $75 per standard refuse or recycing cart or $226.67 per bear resistant cart.
Service Suspended for Non-Payment
• Service will be suspended or discontinued due to non-payment.
• A service resume fee and a cart re-delivery fee will be assessed when an account which was stopped for non-payment is resumed.

On your collection day, times may vary
- Please have your cart available for service between the hours of 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM on your collection day.
- If your house number is not clearly visible from the road, label the cart(s) with your street address.
- Please do not move your roll cart across the street for service, unless otherwise authorized by Alaska Waste.
Don't Put Hazardous Waste in Your Bin!
Alaska Waste is not licensed to haul hazardous waste. Please contact your local Alaska Waste office if you are not sure if an item is acceptable for collection by Alaska Waste.
- What to do with Your Household Hazardous WasteYou can take your household hazardous waste items to the Juneau’s Hazardous Waste Facility (5436 Commercial Boulevard). Drop off up to 100 pounds per day for free.
- Responsibility for Your Collection ItemsResidents are responsible for the items they place out for Alaska Waste collection.
